SANDY, UTAH. - Sounders FC 2 fell 2-1 to MLS side Real Salt Lake Tuesday night in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Rio Tinto Stadium. S2 scored first as Sam Garza found a Giuliano Frano throw-in inside the 18-yard box, but two second-half goals from Real Salt Lake sealed the victory for the home team, who will move on to the Open Cup Round of 16.

Garza scored his third Open Cup goal (and first as a Sounder) in first-half stoppage time when Frano's throw-in fell to his feet inside the 18-yard box. Garza took one touch toward goal then slotted his shot to the far post past diving goalkeeper Jeff Attinella.

The first half ended 1-0, with S2 holding RSL to no shots on goal. Second-half substitute Joao Plata equalized in the 63rd minute as he redirected a low cross sent in by Olmes Garcia from the right.

In the 70th minute, S2 defender Damion Lowe was whistled for a back pass to goalkeeper Saif Kerawala, awarding RSL an indirect free kick from the top of the six-yard box. Plata tapped the ball over to Javier Morales, whose shot went through the S2 wall and into the goal to give Real Salt Lake the lead.

S2 came close to an equalizer twice, with Atinella saving a one-on-one chance with Andy Craven, then Pablo Rossi, who scored the game-winner in S2's two previous Open Cup matches, saw a shot deflect off the post.

S2 returns to USL play on Saturday, June 20 at Arizona United SC (4-6-1, 13 points) in Scottsdale (7:30 p.m. PT / live-streamed on SoundersFC.com). The Rave Green currently sit in second place in the USL Western Conference, and returns home to Starfire Stadium on June 25 to face Real Monarchs (1-7-5, 8 points).
