Andy Rose

Andy Rose still on trial with Coventry City, will get additional look this week

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray will continue to take stock of Andy Rose this week as the 24-year-old midfielder eyes a potential move abroad following four seasons with Sounders FC.

Rose is currently on trial with the English League One side after being extended a contract offer by the Sounders earlier this year. Rose has scored five goals and added seven assists in 82 regular-season appearances since joining the club in 2012.

"First of all Andy is a very athletic boy," Mowbray said last week. "He's 6-foot-3, very lean, upright and covers the ground and eats the grass up when he runs. Andy doesn't know how we play specifically and he's come to join us for training, there are certain aspects we've talked to him about how we play with our midfield players.

"He's an old fashioned box-to-box player, he'll run into the opposition's box and runs back. We don't necessarily play like that so he's taking on some tactical advice He's a nice lad who looks hungry, as I said he's very athletic and we'll keep assessing him over the next week or so."

Sounders GM and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey said last week that the Sounders made Rose a contract offer in April or May, and that Rose’s current trial was not a surprise.

"I think it was something he always wanted to do,” Lagerwey said. “We're happy for our players wherever they end up. Our door is open, either in the short term or long term."

Born in Australia to English parents, Rose grew up in England and played in the Bristol City youth system before playing college soccer at UCLA. The Sounders traded for him in January 2012.

Rose appeared in 25 games for the Sounders last season and played every minute of the team’s three postseason games after midfielder Osvaldo Alonso went down with an injury in the regular season finale.
