On April 15,2015, Jordan Morris did something that most people only dream of doing. In front of a sold out crowd against Mexico, Morris scored for his country.
In the 49th minute, Morris picked up a deflected pass from teammate Gyasi Zardes, flashed into the box and slipped a shot through the goalkeeper’s legs for the lead. It was his first ever U.S. international goal and with over 64,000 people in attendance, it was one he’ll never forget.
“I honestly don’t think it’s hit me yet,” Morris said in an interview two months later. “I was honored to even be apart of the game but then to go out and score was truly unbelievable.”
The Yanks went on to win 2-0 with teammate Juan Agudelo adding a second tally in the 72nd minute. Morris has represented the Red, White and Blue in nine matches so far in his budding career and an additional 13 for the U23s with whom he’s recorded seven goals.
“I never in a million years thought I’d be starting for the U.S. national team when I was 20 years old,” Morris said. “It was an unbelievable experience and a moment that I’ll never forget for the rest of my life.”
