TUKWILA, WASH. - Sounders FC 2's four-match unbeaten streak came to an end on Sunday evening at Starfire Stadium, as Tulsa Roughnecks FC edged the home side 2-1 on two goals by former Sounders FC player Sammy Ochoa. Forward Oalex Anderson scored his first goal of the 2016 campaign in the 26th minute for S2 (1-4-3, 6 points). The Rave Green travel to Sacramento Republic FC's Bonney Field on Saturday, May 14 for the second meeting between the two sides this season after Sacramento edged Seattle 1-0 in the season-opener.
Tulsa's Ochoa began the scoring in the eighth minute. The forward pierced through Seattle's backline and sent a low strike past goalkeeper Tyler Miller for the early 1-0 lead.
In the 18th minute, Anderson netted the equalizer. From the left flank, Myron Samuel sent a dangerous set-piece into the scoring area, where defender Michael Nelson met the ball with a header. Anderson scissor-kicked the ball in mid-air from close range for the game-tying score.
Ochoa, who played for Sounders FC from 2011-2013, then completed the first-half brace in the 35th minute after capitalizing on a misplayed ball deep in Seattle's own half and finishing a one-on-one with Miller.
S2 had scoring chances in the second half, but couldn't find the equalizer. Darwin Jones and Zach Mathers each had near-goals, but Tulsa goalkeeper Jake Feener kept Seattle off the scoreboard in the final period.
The physical match featured seven yellow cards and 33 combined fouls. Tulsa out-fouled Seattle 24-9 and recorded six cautions, while S2 captain Jordan Schweitzer recorded the lone yellow card for the home side.
Also of note, midfielder Jordy Delem and defender Brandon John made their first USL starts on Sunday. Both players made their professional debuts last week against OKC Energy FC in reserve roles.
S2 takes on Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, May 14 (7:30 p.m. PT / live-streamed on SoundersFC.com) at Bonney Field in the club's second road stint of the season. For a cost of $100, choose any eight combinations for all remaining S2 home matches.
