Seattle Sounders select goalkeeper Bryan Meredith in Stage 1 of the 2016 MLS Re-Entry Draft

The Seattle Sounders brought back a familiar face to shore up the goalkeeping ranks on Friday, drafting former San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Bryan Meredith in Stage 1 of the 2016 MLS Re-Entry Draft.

Meredith, 27, spent the previous three seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes where he did not see any regular-season game action. Prior to San Jose, Meredith spent two years with the Sounders. He started 10 games and recorded three shutouts in 2012.

Meredith joins a goalkeeping crew that includes starter Stefan Frei and de-facto backup Tyler Miller. Earlier this week the club decided not to renew the option on Charlie Lyon, who spent the entirety of last season with S2.

The Houston Dynamo also selected former Sounders defender Dylan Remick in the Re-Entry Draft. Remick played 44 games in four seasons in Seattle before the team opted not to renew his contract.
