SoundersFC Academy goalkeeper Trey Muse has been called up to the United States U-18 Men’s National Team for the upcoming Slovakia Cup, which will take place from April 24-28 in Trnava, Slovakia. The Kentucky-born ‘keeper has been a mainstay with the U.S. U-18s in recent months, and his invitation comes on the heels of regularly training with the first team and making the roster for Sounders FC 2. Muse, one of two Sounders Academy goalkeepers in the USYNT pool, signed with the Academy from Derby City Rovers of Louisville, Kentucky, back in 2015, earning his first U.S. call up a few months later.
Always a talented shot-stopper, Muse has developed into a well-rounded ‘keeper under the tutelage of former Academy coach Troy Perkins, current coach Academy and S2 coach Josh Ford, and Club Director of Goalkeeping Tom Dutra.
“We are delighted that Trey is able to travel with the U.S. U-18s for an international event,” said Sounder Academy Technical Director Marc Nicholls.
“He has performed consistently well, and being around the first team environment has clearly accelerated his development.”
Sounders Academy prides itself on providing top prospects with unique developmental opportunities, like training regularly with the first team and S2, and Muse’s growing reputation on the international stage is indicative of that strategy.
The Stars and Stripes will play three group stage matches against Hungary, Belarus, and host-nation Slovakia. The winner of the group will advance directly to the tournament final and will face the winner of Group B, which contains Russia, Czech Republic, Ireland and Turkey.
