Council FAQ
What is the Members Association Council?
Made up of Seattle Sounders FC Members, the Council is a way to get more involved in club affairs and serve as a liaison between Members and ownership.
How do I become a member of Council?
You are voted onto Council by other Members of the Association. Council members need 25 votes (emails) from other Members in order to sit on Council.
How does the voting process work?
Prospective Council members can only be voted on by Members of the Association.
Members wishing to vote a fellow member onto Council will send the person’s name to Sounders FC. 25 votes must be received for the prospective Council member to be ‘elected’ to Council.
Each Member may vote only one person to Council. You will not be allowed to vote for multiple Council members. In addition, you may only send one vote (email) per prospective Council member.
Once voted on Council, is there anything else I need to do before attending meetings?
Yes, Council members will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of duties.
Why will I be asked to sign an acknowledgement of duties?
Council members need to be committed to the Council and their duties. We want serious people involved so we can wisely proceed with the Members Association.
How long are the terms of Council members?
A normal Council term will run from March through November. Because the 2009 season has yet to begin, the first year of Council will run from late 2008 until November of 2009. Beginning in 2010, Council terms will indeed run from March through November.
What are the duties of Council members?
Council members will attend two meetings per term, attend the annual meeting at conclusion of season – hosted by Drew Carey, serve as mouthpiece of other Members, fans, match attendees, report to ownership on the pulse of the Members Association, be tuned into the match-day environment in your seating section, gather comments, suggestions, and criticisms from Members and present them to ownership, communicate to other Members through Member Only forums, and chat rooms that will be integrated into newly designed Sounders FC website (early 2009), serve as monitors in Members Only forums and chat rooms and report inappropriate content to Sounders FC management, and have a desire to see the Members Association succeed and become the cornerstone of other sports teams wanting to see Members have a more pronounced voice.
