U.S. Soccer unveiled new kits for the men’s and women’s national teams on Thursday, and Seattle Sounders players Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris stood front and center in the much-anticipated rollout of the 2016 look.
Dempsey and Morris were joined by Tim Howard and womens players Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd in USSF’s unveiling of the new jerseys, which feature U.S. Soccer’s new crest on a traditional white body with blue sleeves for the teams’ home kit. A red stripe runs the length of the shirt and shorts, revealing flashes of white.
The away kit will feature a black body, complemented with a blue sleeve on the right and a red sleeve on the left. Similar to the home kits, a black stripe runs down the side of the shirt and shorts, showing off flashes of blue on the left side and red on the right side.
The home and away jerseys are adorned with several patriotic flares throughout, including the phrases “1 Nation” and “1 Team” exposed on the outside cuffs, while the inside displays a circular design with “We Can,” “We Will,” “We Are,” “1 Nation” and “1 Team” surrounding “USA” in the middle.
The USMNT and US U-23 team will be the first to wear the jerseys when both teams play important qualifying matches on March 25. The USMNT will face Guatemala in Guatemala City, Guatemala (10 p.m. ET; beIN Sport and NBC Universo), while the U-23s will take on Colombia in the Olympic Qualifying playoffs in Barranquilla, Colombia (6 p.m. ET; FS1 and UDN).
The USWNT will take the pitch in the new kits on April 6 in an international friendly against Colombia.
Rosters for both the USMNT and the U-23s will be released in the coming days. Dempsey is a likely candidate to be included on the USMNT roster for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, while Morris is expected to be included for the U-23s.
