Seattle Sounders defender Zach Scott thanks family and friends on social media following his retirement announcement

After announcing on Thursday his plan to retire at the end of the season, veteran Seattle Sounders defender Zach Scott took to Twitter to add a few more personal thank-yous and anecdotes.

“My only goal was to do it with my family and repay those that helped along the way…” Scott began.

He went on to thank Sounders interim head coach Brian Schmetzer, former head coach Sigi Schmid, Sounders president Adrian Hanauer, his teammates and his family among others.

Scott spent 15 years with the Sounders, amassing over 350 appearances spanning two divisions and earning the nickname “Mr. Sounder.” He has appeared in 12 matches this season, starting nine, and is the last player on the current roster who played for Seattle prior to its jump to Major League Soccer in 2009.
