Major League Soccer has named Seattle Sounders defender Gustav Svensson and midfielder Cristian Roldan to its Week 5 Team of the Week for their efforts in Seattle’s scoreless home draw with Atlanta United last Friday.
Roldan was a menace defensively, tracking down loose balls and throwing himself into passes and shots with reckless abandon. He also spent final 10 minutes at right back after midfielder Henry Wingo entered for right back starter Jordy Delem.
Svensson anchored a jumbled back four with center backs Roman Torres resting and Chad Marshall a late scratch due to illness. Svensson helped lead the Sounders to their first clean sheet of 2017 against one of the league’s best offenses.
