Sounders FC U-18s moved into the top spot in the Northwest Division and continued their unbeaten streak (6-0-1) with a 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Sunday. Sean Bowman scored the game’s lone goal in the 61st minute when Ryan Schaefer found space in-between the backline and fed Bowman for his 21st goal of the season.

The U-16s struck early in their match when Ivory Randle pushed forward with a strong run down the left flank before cutting inside the box and netting a shot to the far post in the fifth minute. Despite creating a number of quality chances, the group fell 3-1 to the Timbers.

Standout Performer

Lorenzo Ramos played a key role in the heart of the team for the U18s. Ramos' tireeless effort and neat passing kept the team ticking over against a defensive Timbers team.

Tactical Focus

The group moves into the finishing phase of development during this stage. The coaches hope that this can translate to goals.

Placed in Group F, Honduras will face Germany, Fiji and Uzbekistan.

Looking Forward

Both teams continue home action this weekend at Starfire Sports as the Academy takes on Crossfire Premier on Saturday, March 21. Last time out, both squads came away with shutout victories. Both matches will take place on the Stadium field prior to the inaugural S2 home opener against Sacramento Republic FC at 7:30 p.m. PT.

This weekend the U-14s will participate in a Pre-Academy event March 20-22 hosted by Vancouver Whitecaps FC. They will face the Portland Timbers, Alberta SC and Whitecaps FC at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C.

Sounders FC Academy will take on Club Tijuana’s U-18 Academy on Tuesday, March 24 at 4:30 p.m. PT at CenturyLink Field prior to the First Team’s international friendly at 7:00 p.m. The Academy friendly is included with any match ticket for the First-Team match.
