Four Sounders named to USA Today's Top 25 Players in MLS History

Dempsey 9.1

In honor of Major League Soccer’s 25th season, USA Today put out a ranking of the Top 25 players in league history on Monday.

Even though the Sounders didn’t join MLS until 2009, four players with ties to the Sounders organization cracked the list.

Chad Marshall (No. 25), Osvaldo Alonso (No. 24), Clint Dempsey (No. 20) and Preki (No. 19) all were recognized among the greatest players to ply their trade in MLS. Between their individual accolades and team accomplishments, the quartet certainly warrant inclusion in any discussion of players that have propelled the league forward.

“One of the most venerable and durable defenders in MLS history,” wrote USA Today’s Jim Reineking, “Marshall is the only three-time winner of the MLS Defender of the Year award.”

An Assistant Coach for the First Team, Preki was recognized for his stellar play with the Kansas City Wizards and Miami Fusion.
