SEATTLE – The 2014 MLS season is in its 25th match for Sounders FC and for the first time this year, Head Coach Sigi Schmid has the luxury of starting the same lineup in consecutive league matches.
After a convincing 4-2 win over the Portland Timbers on Sunday at Providence Park, Schmid opted to keep his lineup the same on Saturday against the Colorado Rapids as Seattle looks to keep a grasp of its spot atop the Supporters’ Shield standings.
Stefan Frei remains the starting goalkeeper behind a back four that includes DeAndre Yedlin on the right side, Leo Gonzalez on the left and a central pair of Chad Marshall and Zach Scott.
In the midfield, Brad Evans stays on the right side, where he notched an assist last week, with Marco Pappa on the left. Osvaldo Alonso and Gonzalo Pineda will man the middle, keeping Seattle’s pivot from defense to offense intact.
At forward, Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins both got back on the scoreboard against Portland. Dempsey finished with one goal and one assist while Martins had two goals and two assists to earn MLS Player of the Week honors. Last time out against Colorado on April 26, Dempsey and Martins combined for three goals, too.
