PORTLAND – Sounders FC takes on the Portland Timbers on Sunday in the last match in a stretch of five matches in 15 days and will meet its rival with as strong a lineup as Head Coach Sigi Schmid could assemble.
Stefan Frei starts in goal behind a back four of DeAndre Yedlin on the right, Leo Gonzalez on the left and a central pair of Chad Marshall and Zach Scott.
In the midfield, Osvaldo Alonso and Gonzalo Pineda will be tasked with slowing the Portland attack and setting up the Seattle offense from the middle of the park. On their right will be Brad Evans with Marco Pappa on the left.
At forward will be the combination of Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins. Dempsey has four goals in two matches against Portland this year, including a hat trick to bring Seattle back from a 4-2 deficit for a 4-4 draw in Portland in April.
This lineup features eight of the 11 starters from the April draw, as well as a 2-0 win over the Timbers on July 13.
