On Wednesday evening, the Sounders will face a Mexican club in CONCACAF Champions League for the 14th time since 2010 in Guadalajara. In leg one of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal matchup Chivas, which the Sounders won 1-0, Chivas became the fifth Liga MX team to face the Sounders in the regional tournament, joining Monterrey (twice), Santos Laguna (twice), Tigres UANL and Club America.

  • HERE: Three things to know about Chivas

In 2013, the Sounders became the first MLS team to defeat a club from Mexico (Tigres UANL). Take a look at how the Sounders have performed in each meeting against a Mexican club in CCL play:

2010-2011, Group Stage

Sounders FC 0 vs. Monterrey 2
Seattle, Washington

Sounders FC 2 at Monterrey 3
Monterrey, Mexico

REVIEW: In their first matchup against a Liga MX side, the Sounders came up short in both contests during the group stage. Notably, Mike Fucito gave the Sounders a 2-0 lead in Mexico after an earlier own goal, but Monterrey stormed back with three goals in the second half.

2011-12, Group Stage

Sounders FC 1 at Monterrey 0
Monterrey, Mexico

Sounders FC 1 vs. Monterrey 2
Seattle, Washington

REVIEW: Once again against Monterrey, the Sounders became the second American team to win a CCL match on Mexican soil. Monterrey won the other match, though, in Seattle during the group stage.
