Telling Stat: Pa-Modou Kah had scored just one goal in his three MLS seasons prior to Saturday, when the Vancouver centerback netted a brace to give the Whitecaps a commanding lead. All three of Vancouver’s goals resulted from set pieces, with the third one being scored by Pedro Morales on a free kick from long distance.

What You Missed: Clint Dempsey, Brad Evans and Stefan Frei all returned to the starting lineup on Saturday after lengthy absences. Dempsey and Evans had been at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the U.S. National Team, while Frei missed three games due to the shoulder injury he suffered on July 3.

So What: Thanks to its 3-0 victory, Vancouver moves to the top of the Cascadia Cup standings with eight points from five matches. The two sides will meet again on Wednesday in their opening game of the 2015-16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
