MATCH RECAP: Tacoma Defiance earns a point in 1-1 draw with Reno 1868 FC

Justin Dhillon 5-18-19

TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (2-9-1, 7 points) on Saturday played to its first draw of the season, a 1-1 decision with Reno 1868 FC (4-2-5, 17 points). Justin Dhillon scored just nine seconds into the match, earning a place in the record books for the fastest goal in USL Championship history. The evening’s final result snapped a six-game losing streak for Tacoma, which moved to 2-3-1 on the season at Cheney Stadium.

Jesse Daley took the game’s opening kickoff and sent a pass to Dhillon, who found Azriel Gonzalez streaking down the left side. Gonzalez sent a cross into the area which found Dhillon, who calmly headed home Tacoma’s lone goal of the evening. Dhillon has now scored in consecutive games, and his two goals this season are tied for the team lead with Gonzalez. The assist was Gonzalez’s first of the season, which also ties him for the club lead.

Reno found the equalizer in the 84th minute off the head of Brian Brown. He finished a corner kick from Seth Casiple into the left corner of the goal.

Tacoma goalkeeper Trey Muse made a career-high eight saves to lead Defiance, including several diving stops. Six players under the age of 20 saw action for Tacoma tonight, including one First Team player in Muse.

Tacoma Defiance next hosts Fresno FC on Sunday, May 26 (1:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The club then travels to take on LA Galaxy II on Wednesday, May 29 (7:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
