MATCH RECAP: Tacoma Defiance has unbeaten streak snapped with 2-1 loss

TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (2-10-3, 9 points) on Saturday had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to El Paso Locomotive FC (5-2-5, 20 points) at Cheney Stadium. Justin Dhillon scored his team-leading fifth marker of the season, good for his fifth consecutive match with a goal.


In the 42nd minute, Dhillon received a pass from Aleks Berkolds and made a move to his right before firing a shot to the bottom right corner of the goal. The assist was the first in the professional career of Berkolds. Dhillon has now scored five of the team’s last eight goals over a five-game stretch.


El Paso netted the first goal of the evening in the 31st minute. Jerome Kiesewetter chipped Tacoma goalkeeper Bryan Meredith in close to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.


In the 68th minute, Omar Salgado found Calvin Rezende on the far post who calmly finished to make it a 2-1 contest. The goal was the second of the season for Rezende.


Four players under the age of 20 saw action for Tacoma tonight, including two First Team players in Danny Leyva and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez.


Tacoma Defiance next embarks on a four-game road stretch, beginning with a matchup at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, June 8 (5:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The club then travels to take on Austin Bold FC on Saturday, June 15 (5:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
