Following the team’s 1-0 win versus FC Dallas on Saturday evening at Toyota Stadium, Seattle Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 8.
Varga's influence on both ends of the pitch was clear from the first whistle. On the defensive end, he had the most tackles (4) in the match, won nine duels, had two interceptions and made three recoveries to help prevent FC Dallas from scoring. Offensively, the Mexican international hit the woodwork in the 59th minute with a shot from distance that nearly turned into a goal with the follow up from Danny Musovski, but he was called offsides. Vargas finished the night with two total shots and had a passing accuracy rate of 80% within the 90 minutes of match-play.
The Sounders return to action on Saturday to face Nashville SC at Lumen Field (4:30 p.m. PT; Watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV)
