Professional Referee Organization announces assignments for MLS Cup 2017

Referee Allen Champan will be the head official at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday, December 9 for MLS Cup 2017 (1 p.m. PT; ESPN, UniMás, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM) between the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC, the Professional Referee Organization announced on Saturday. He will be joined by assistants Adam Wienckowski and Jeremy Hanson, fourth official Kevin Stott, fifth official Jason White and Video Assistant Referee Dave Gantar.


Chapman was the 2017 MLS Referee of the Year and was the head official at the 2017 MLS All-Star Game. He was also the fourth official in last year’s MLS Cup.


Chapman refereed two Sounders matches this season: a 3-3 home draw with the New England Revolution on April 29 and a 1-0 home win over the Portland Timbers on May 27. He issued four total yellow cards in the two games, with three to Seattle and one to opponents.
