Sounders 2 prospects Ray Serrano and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez have been called up to the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team by Head Coach John Hackworth for an upcoming domestic camp, which will take place this week through June 10 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Serrano, who has 29 goals and 7 assists across all competitions for the U-17s this season, signed with S2 on February 14 and has gone on to make two appearances for the USL side. Splitting time between the U-17s and U-19s this season, striker Ocampo-Chavez has registered 10 goals and five assists from just 935 minutes of action.

“We’re pleased for both boys in different ways,” said Sounders FC Director of Player Development and Academy Director Marc Nicholls. “Ray has now made his fourth consecutive camp with the U-17s. Alfonso has been out for a while, so it’s really pleasing that the first camp he’s available, he’s been re-introduced to the squad.”

Rising stars for both club and country, Serrano and Ocampo-Chavez, both still just 16 years old, have turned plenty of heads with their rapid ascent through the youth system and into the professional ranks. Both players have been an integral part of the new U-17 cycle, which will culminate in a U-17 World Cup in 2019.

With the USSDA playoffs just around the corner, the U-17 MNT training camp should have the young Sounders in excellent form heading into the postseason.
