TUKWILA, WASH. – Newly-signed Seattle Sounders FC 2 forward Myron Samuel scored a second-half brace to lead the club to a 3-2 victory over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Wednesday afternoon at Starfire Stadium. S2 now sits in second place in the USL Western Conference with 39 points, tied with LA Galaxy II and the Switchbacks one point behind Oklahoma City Energy FC.

Colorado Springs took an early lead with a goal from Miguel Gonzalez in the 18th minute, assisted by Luke Vercollone. A quick give-and-go play between the two set Gonzalez up in front of goal before shooting low and to the left past diving goalkeeper Charlie Lyon.

The first half would end 1-0, but Samuel leveled the match six minutes into his debut after coming on for Pablo Rossi at the half, scoring a flick-on header by Nick Miele.

The Rave Green had a chance to extend its lead in the 67th minute with a penalty kick after Oalex Anderson was brought down in the box. Sérgio Mota stepped up to take the shot, but his effort bounced off the crossbar and the match remained level. Sérgio did score 20 minutes later on an assist from Samuel as the St. Vincentian tapped a throw-in back to Sérgio who chipped his shot over goalkeeper Devala Gorrick in the 78th minute.

Samuel scored his second of the night in the 86th minute after capitalizing on a misplayed defensive header in the box. Charlie Lyon’s long kick bounced off the head of a defender, finding Samuel free on goal. He slotted his shot to the left to make it 3-1 for the Rave Green.

Aaron King scored for Switchbacks FC in extra time to cut S2’s lead in half, but the match ended moments later, giving S2 the victory. With the three points, S2 enters a three-way tie for second place in the USL Western Conference ahead of its Sunday match against LA Galaxy II (3:00 p.m. PT / SoundersFC.com).
