Seattle Sounders FC today announced that it is holding open tryouts for Sounders FC 2 (S2) in Las Vegas on December 13 and 14. Held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a minimum of one player from the tryouts will be guaranteed a trial with S2, Sounders FC’s newly launched USL PRO team that begins play in 2015.
“With this tryout our aim is to attract a wide range of players and fill the S2 roster with the best possible talent,” said S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz. “It’s a great way for us to expand our reach outside of the Northwest, as well as an incredible opportunity for new players to earn a spot within this organization.”
Players will be assessed by members of the Sounders FC technical staff, including newly appointed S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson and Sounders FC Head Scout and Assistant Coach Kurt Schmid.
"We owe it to ourselves to be as thorough as possible in our scouting process and open our eyes to as many players as possible,” said Hendrickson. “I'm looking forward to evaluating the players that this tryout has to offer.”
Tryouts will take place at Peter Johann Soccer Field on the northwest end of UNLV campus and are open to male soccer players ages 18 and older. Check-in and registration are set to begin at 4:00 p.m. PST on Saturday, December 13 with games starting at 5:00 pm. Select participants will be chosen to compete in a full-sided game on Sunday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. PST.
“This is a great chance for us to see guys from all over the country that wouldn’t usually get a chance to try-out for the Sounders FC organization,” said Kurt Schmid. “We’re excited to see guys come out and prove why they deserve a pro contract with S2.”
The registration cost for each player is $150. Registration will close on December 11 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Announced on October 14, 2014, Sounders FC 2 is the club's Second Team, playing in USL PRO starting in the 2015 season. Known as S2, the team represents a link between the Sounders FC Academy and Sounders FC First Team. Playing its home matches at Starfire Stadium, S2 emphasizes development and community involvement, and will provide a consistent and competitive professional environment for promising Academy players and certain First Team players to progress. The team will operate under the management of Sounders FC and the Sounders Community Trust, an unprecedented, fan-owned organization that will hold a 20-percent interest in the team.
