This Saturday, August 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PT, the Seattle community is invited to celebrate the opening of the new Yesler Terrace Park, a much-anticipated outdoor gathering place featuring an expansive plaza for community events, smaller-scale spaces for assembly and play, a basketball court and a soccer field that was developed in partnership with Sounders FC and its charitable arm, RAVE Foundation.
The celebration event features music, art and food trucks, with an official dedication ceremony at noon. Speakers, including Sounders FC Owner Adrian Hanauer, will discuss the development of Yesler Terrace Park and its community partnerships. Sounders legend Roger Levesque will be on hand to lead the official “first kick” on the RAVE soccer field, followed by soccer ball giveaways to young residents of Yesler Terrace. The Seattle University men’s basketball team is also hosting activities on the basketball court.

The new park features something for everyone and was developed in collaboration with the diverse Yesler neighborhood in order to provide the community with a space that would be utilized and loved. Sounders FC’s charitable arm, RAVE Foundation has fully funded the RAVE Field at this site, which is the first of its kind and provides the blueprint of RAVE Foundation’s ultimate goal of opening small, public playfields in underserved communities throughout the Puget Sound region. Earlier this year, the Seattle Housing Authority was awarded the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s 2018 Urban Soccer Symposium Innovation Award in part for its work alongside RAVE Foundation in the development of the RAVE Field at Yesler Terrace Park.
