Seattle Sounders captain earns 300th appearance in all competitions in Saturday’s match against New York City FC

Alonso vs. NYCFC 2017-06-17

NEW YORK — Osvaldo Alonso is now “Mr. 300.”

The Seattle Sounders captain made his 300th appearance across all competitions on Saturday in a 2-1 loss to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. This comes just a couple months after Alonso passed the 20,000-minute mark.

“I didn’t know that,” Alonso said humbly after the match. “It’s great to be here for so long and getting 300 appearances is a lot of games.”

Alonso is a Sounders original after joining the club in 2009 ahead of its inaugural Major League Soccer season. He has 10 goals and 19 assists during MLS regular-season play in his nine years and is one of the league’s best defensive midfielders of all time.

Always a competitor, Alonso quickly shifted the focus off himself and toward his play on the field.

“I wish we could have won on my 300th [game],” Alonso said, “but I have to look forward now.”
