Seattle Sounders FC is set to face the LA Galaxy in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, July 20 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The kick-off time has yet to be announced. Seattle secured advancement to the Quarterfinal Round via a penalty-kick shootout win over Real Salt Lake on Tuesday evening at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Galaxy defeated the Portland Timbers 1-0 on Wednesday night at Providence Park.
Sounders FC is now 22-2-4 all-time since joining MLS in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play. Winner of the U.S. Open Cup in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014, Sounders FC is tied with the Chicago Fire for the most titles in the tournament among MLS clubs. Maccabi Los Angeles and Bethlehem Steel FC hold the record with five wins apiece. In 2011, Sounders FC became the first team since 1968 to win three consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championships.
Sounders FC continues its road swing this Saturday with a return to MLS play against Toronto FC. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m PT at BMO Field, with local television coverage on JOEtv beginning at 4:00 p.m. PT and regional coverage being provided via ROOT SPORTS throughout the Pacific Northwest (outside of Western Washington).
