Vancouver-based clothing line Reigning Champ released their Seattle Sounders 2016 MLS Cup capsule collection on Wednesday to commemorate Seattle’s historic run to last year’s title.
The collection consists of four pieces in limited quantities: A T-shirt, crewneck sweatshirt, bomber jacket and athletic shorts. Sounders Brad Evans, Stefan Frei and Cristian Roldan had the chance to model the gear and loved the products. If you want some of the clothes, you can order them here or visit The Pro Shop at CenturyLink Field. Act quickly because supplies are limited. The sweatshirt has already sold out online.
“The line is awesome,” said Evans. “It’s definitely different than normal Sounders swag. It’s a championship series, there’s something special to go along with that. It’s extremely high-quality, the fit is right, the fit is true. It’s something that when all of us tried it on, it was something that we would love to wear on road trips. It’s comfortable enough to wear on the plane, to team meetings, whatever it is.”
Added Roldan: “When I put it on, it was soft and very comfortable. I really like the texture of it first and foremost.”
The line features a much more pared down look to traditional Sounders apparel with several distinct features that pay homage to the foundation of the club.
“The little details that they have are really cool,” said Frei. “‘Eternal Blue, Forever Green,’ the little star, the tiny threads of blue and green. Those are very subtle, but deliberate and cool details.”
Said Evans: “It sticks out in its own way where people will ask, ‘Where did you get that top?’”
The three Sounders each had a different favorite item: Evans liked the T-shirt, Frei the sweatshirt and Roldan the bomber jacket. For them, wearing Reigning Champ as the reigning champs carries a special significance.
“Whenever anybody asks about the shirt, we can tell them why it was made,” said Evans. “There’s definitely a story that goes along with this clothing line.”
