Seattle Sounders waive second-year forward Andy Craven

SEATTLE – The Seattle Sounders announced Thursday they have waived forward Andy Craven after the former MLS SuperDraft pick struggled to catch on with the first team in his second season with the club.

Craven, 24, signed with the Sounders’ first team in June 2015 after scoring five goals and adding five assists in 14 appearances over the first half of Sounders FC 2’s inaugural season. He made three MLS appearances for the Sounders before suffering a season-ending knee injury, and he has not made a first-team appearance this year after signing another first-team contract before the season began.

Craven has three goals and two assists for S2 in 2016.

The Sounders selected Craven in the Third Round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft following an impressive collegiate career at the University of North Carolina and College of Charleston. A MAC Hermann Trophy finalist as a senior, Craven was tied for first in the country with 15 goals for the Tar Heels in 2014, including a nation-leading eight game-winners.
