Brad Evans, Osvaldo Alonso to coach at Zach Scott’s testimonial match on March 1

Just three months after retiring from soccer after 15 years with the Seattle Sounders, Zach Scott will lace up his boots one more time.

The Sounders and Emerald City Supporters are holding a joint testimonial match for Scott at Memorial Stadium on March 1 at 7 p.m. PT. A testimonial is a common practice in English soccer where a club holds a final non-competitive match to honor a departed player who has spent many years with the team.

Current players Brad Evans and Osvaldo Alonso, MLS Sounders originals with Scott, will coach each team.

Tickets will be available from $10.20 — the 20 cents represent Scott’s No. 20 he wore — for the upper grandstand, $20 for the lower grandstand and $50 for on-field seating. You can purchase tickets here.

One hundred percent of the proceeds raised will be put toward the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund, the Seattle Sounders’ RAVE Foundation and a college fund for Scott’s three children. Scott’s daughter’s friend Avery is suffering from a brain tumor, and Scott’s decision to donate some of the profits to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund is a direct result of that.

The roster of players participating is expansive and a player from every year of Scott’s career from 2002-16 will be represented. All but three players will have played with Scott professionally as well: Sounders Sporting Director Chris Henderson, Sounders FC 2 head coach Ezra Hendrickson and a friend of Scott’s from high school. Scott’s brother and son will also participate.
