Seattle Sounders FC Academy enjoyed a very successful weekend against local opposition. The U-14 and U-15 pre-academy teams also played some beautiful attacking soccer, scoring a combined ten goals against older opposition.
Both of the older Development Academy teams squared off against Crossfire Premiere this weekend. The U-16 squad faced a very defensively organized team, and was unable to break the deadlock. Coach Sean Henderson made some tactical adjustments at halftime in a bid to breakdown the other side. Despite creating numerous chances in the second half they were held scoreless, largely in part to individual heroics from the opposing goalkeeper.
The U-18’s jumped out to an early lead in the 15th minute courtesy of a John Magnus goal, and doubled their lead in the 32nd through Connor Noblat. Despite conceding a harsh penalty just before the stroke of half-time, the team never relinquished control of the match and found the back of the net four more times. Recent Seattle United signing Roko Bedalov came off the bench and tallied two goals in the last 20 minutes of the match.

Coach's Take
“It was a very good weekend for the Academy. We were able to create many chances between the four teams and score 16 goals. The first three games were rather convincing, and if it weren’t for some excellent goalkeeping in the fourth game it would have been a clean sweep.”
-Sounders FC Academy Technical Director Marc Nicholls
Looking Forward
The Sounders U-16 Academy will participate in the prestigious Generation Adidas Cup this weekend. They will face off against other top MLS Academy sides Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers in Denver, CO.
Standout Performers
Harrison Kurtz and Habib Barry were instrumental in their win against Crossfire over the weekend. Harrison Kurtz showed great energy throughout, and scored in the 58th minute to restore the two-goal lead. Habib Barry played in an unfamiliar role at center-back, and filled in well with an excellent performance.
