SEATTLE, WASH. -
In partnership with adidas, MLS WORKS, Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Seattle Sounders FC is inviting media to the unveiling of a new mini-pitch at Beverly Park Elementary School this
Wednesday, April 27 at 4:00 p.m. PT
. Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey, as well as players Cristian Roldan and Darwin Jones are among those on-hand for the ceremony, which is part of a national campaign to build 20 mini-pitches in underserved communities across North America. The event is being emceed by Sounders FC Radio Play-by-Play Voice Matt Johnson, and following the official dedication, local members from Washington Youth Soccer's
Soccer for Success
program are set to play a small-sided match on the new pitch.
Wednesday's event is open to working members of the media for still photography, b-roll and interviews. Opportunities are available for media to capture the speakers, the ceremonial first kick and a small-sided kids match. Those wishing to attend should contact with Matt Winter [MattW@SoundersFC.com] of Sounders FC Communications to RSVP and receive further details.
Each new mini-pitch offers children in those communities a safe place to play, while providing a soccer environment that encourages unstructured play within local communities, supporting the continued growth of the game. Additionally, SNHU is awarding a full college scholarship to a deserving member of the local community as part of the dedication ceremony.
Following the official dedication, local
Soccer for Success
members, from Washington Youth Soccer, and Seattle Sounders FC players are participating in a small-sided match on the new pitch.
Soccer for Success
is the U.S. Soccer Foundation's free after-school program that uses soccer as a tool to combat children's health issues and juvenile delinquency.
The event is part of Sounders FC's community efforts for Impact Seattle, a two-week slate of widespread community events across the greater Seattle metropolitan area, culminating in Seattle Foundation's annual GiveBIG campaign on Tuesday, May 3.
