Seattle Sounders FC will open the 2015 MLS regular season on March 8 against the New England Revolution on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field, Major League Soccer announced today. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. PST, with the season-opening contest being broadcast nationally on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). The complete 2015 MLS regular season schedule will be announced at a later date.
The 2015 season is the first of an eight-year landmark television and media rights partnerships with ESPN, FOX Sports and Univision networks. All three partners will feature an exclusive MLS Match of the Week for the first time in league history. The Univision family of networks will televise a game of the week on Friday evenings – primarily on UniMás. On Sundays, ESPN and FOX Sports networks will broadcast back-to-back MLS matches at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. PST, respectively.
Sounders FC is 4-2-0 all-time in MLS regular season openers, including a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in 2014. This also marks the fifth time in seven seasons that Seattle has opened on national television, as well as the sixth time they have faced an Eastern Conference opponent.
Additional information on times and broadcast details for these games and others is being revealed in the coming weeks as part of the complete 2015 regular season schedule announcement.
