SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS – In its first competitive match of 2022, Sounders FC played to a scoreless draw with F.C. Motagua in the first leg of the Round of 16 matchup in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. The match marks the end of a long road stint for Seattle, who, prior to the trip to Honduras, also traveled to Tucson, Arizona and Palm Springs, California for preseason training and action.
Despite both teams having quality chances at goal, neither side could bag a goal as the series shifts to Seattle for the second leg. Notably, it was a night of firsts for various members of Sounders FC as well, as new Designated Player Albert Rusnák got his first start for the Rave Green, as well as new signing Jackson Ragen getting his first appearance, subbing on in the 89th minute, since joining the First Team on Valentine’s Day.
Brian Schmetzer’s side now departs back to Seattle, where it hosts F.C. Motagua in the second leg of the Round of 16 matchup on Thursday, February 24 (7:30 p.m. PT / FS2, TUDN). The Rave Green then kick off their MLS season three days later, hosting Nashville SC on Sunday, February 27 (5:00 p.m. / FOX 13+, Prime Video).
