Goodman 1/17

SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today selected three players on the second day of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas, with the league holding the Third and Fourth Rounds via conference call. In the Third Round, the Rave Green made Georgetown midfielder Doug Goodman the 12th selection (56th overall) before taking defender Jake Stovall from Wright State with the 22nd pick (66th overall). Seattle then chose Seattle University defender and Sounders FC Academy product Kyle Bjornethun with the 22nd and final selection of the Fourth Round (88th overall).

Goodman, 21, started 71 of 80 appearances across four seasons with the Hoyas, recording seven career goals and 12 assists. He was a member of the 2013 Big East All-Rookie Team after recording four goals and three assists as a freshman. He then proceeded to record a career-high five assists as a sophomore in 2014. The Sarasota, Florida-native started all but one of his 60 appearances in his sophomore through senior campaigns (2014-2016).

Stovall, 23, made 69 appearances across four seasons for Wright State, culminating in a senior season in which he appeared in 20 games and led a Raider defense that allowed just 18 goals all season, including just two in league play. The Centerville, Ohio native earned First Team All-Horizon League and NSCAA Third Team All-Great Lakes Region honors as a senior in 2016. After being named Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2013, Stovall followed up with a sophomore campaign in which he scored a career-high six goals on just seven shots on goal.

Bjornethun, 21, was a four-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection at Seattle University, including three First Team honors, and was named WAC Defender of the Year in 2015 and 2016. A member of the 2016 MAC Hermann Watch List, Bjornethun started each of his 85 appearances across four seasons with the Redhawks under Head Coach Pete Fewing, totaling nine career goals and four assists. Among his many accolades, the Snohomish native was a NSCAA Second Team All-American in 2015, two-time NSCAA All-West Region selection and two-time member of the WAC All-Tournament Team. Bjornethun is a graduate of Glacier Peak High School and a Sounders FC Academy alumni.

Tuesday marked the second day of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas. On Friday, Sounders FC selected Stanford defender Brian Nana-Sinkam with the 22nd overall pick in the First Round and Ghanaian midfielder Dominic Oduro with the 22nd pick in the Second Round (44th overall). The Rave Green also held the 16th selection in the First Round, but traded the pick to New York City FC in exchange for $75,000 of General Allocation Money.
