Sounders FC is set to debut the new kits and offer fans the first-chance to purchase them this Friday at the CenturyLink Field Pro Shop. With Sounders FC players on-hand, the event begins at 6:00 p.m. PT and is open to the public. The first 500 fans to purchase one of the club’s new 2016 kits Friday at the launch event receive a free adidas t-shirt custom-designed by Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
The 2016 Sounders FC Rave Green primary jersey boasts a one-of-a-kind, custom engineered fabric specifically for the club. Inspired by Mt. Rainier, the interlocking “S” design for Seattle Sounders FC is woven into the fabric of the team, just as the mountains are woven into the very fabric of the Seattle community. The “Sky of Blue, Sea of Green” chant can be found on the neck tape, with the Alliance Council voting to place the Seattle city crest as the jock tag.
A traditional departure from the typical club colors, the new third kit – “Pacific Blue” – is steeped in Seattle lore. Inspired by the Puget Sound which helped give the Sounders franchise its name, the blues of the jersey reflects the colors of the sound that finds its home in Seattle. The back neck insert reads “Sounders FC” while the Seattle City crest can again be found in the jock tag.
The new primary kit marks the fifth edition of the Rave Green uniform, while Pacific Blue is the club’s fourth third kit since 2009. Sounders FC previous third kits included Electricity (2010-11), Super Cyan (2012-2013) and most recently Pitch Black (2014-2015). Olympic White enters its second season in rotation after debuting in 2015.
For the eighth consecutive season, Xbox returns as the club’s jersey sponsor, with the iconic letters of the Microsoft-owned gaming and entertainment system emblazoned across the chest of each kit. Xbox is the lone jersey partner for Sounders FC since the club joined MLS, originally agreeing to a multi-year partnership on May 28, 2008.
Sounders FC takes on the LA Galaxy tonight in its final match of the 2016 preseason presented by adidas, with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. from the StubHub Center. The match is being live-streamed on SoundersFC.com. The 2016 campaign begins on Tuesday, February 23 against Mexican side Club America in the first leg of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal Round. The two-leg aggregate series concludes in Mexico City on March 2 before Seattle’s MLS season begins on March 6 against Sporting Kansas City at CenturyLink Field.
