Following the club's 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night, Seattle Sounders winger Cristian Roldan has been named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Matchday for Matchday 36, while João Paulo earned a spot on the bench.
Roldan, who was making just his third start since returning from concussion protocol, scored the game-winning goal six minutes into second half stoppage time to secure three points and a berth in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. In addition to his late-game heroics, he also posted two tackles, two key passes, an interception, and led the team with seven shot creating actions.
Lined up in defensive midfield, João Paulo turned in an incredible all-action performance against the Galaxy. On the opening goal, he twice won back possession before curling an inch-perfect cross onto the head of Jordan Morris. The Brazilian midfield general also notched three key passes, won three tackles, and recorded an interception as he bossed the midfield all evening.
