Veteran goalkeeper Stefan Frei was named the Seattle Sounders Defender of the Year on Wednesday after the Swiss international put together one of the best seasons in franchise history in net.
The 29-year-old Frei posted a career-high 10 shutouts and set a club record with 111 saves in 2015, his second season with the Sounders after starting his career with Toronto FC. He also led Major League Soccer in save percentage (77.6) and was one of just two goalkeepers in MLS this season to post 100 saves, 10 shutouts and 10 wins.
Frei has 35 wins over his first two seasons with the Sounders, the most of any goalkeeper in MLS over the past two seasons.
