Tacoma Defiance drops 3-1 road result at Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Tacoma Defiance (2-4-1, 7 points) fell 3-1 to Sacramento Republic FC (4-1-3, 15 points) on Saturday evening at Papa Murphy’s Park. Sam Rogers scored the lone goal for Tacoma, who lost its second consecutive match following a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) after the league’s restart. Defiance currently sits eight points back of Sacramento and Reno in the standings for Group A, the four-team group created after USL’s resumption of play following the COVID-19 shutdown.

SRFC scored all three of its goals in the opening 45 minutes, including a brace from Dariusz Formella in the 14^th and 41^st minutes. Cameron Iwasa also added a goal in the 33^rd minute for the home side. Rogers scored his first goal of the season in the 50^th minute on an assist from Chino Pérez. Tacoma Defiance now travels to Las Vegas for a matchup with the Lights on Wednesday, August 19 (7:00 p.m. / ESPN+).
