Three Sounders Players Called Into International Duty

SEATTLE, WASH. – Three Sounders FC players have been called into international duty for the September FIFA window. Nouhou is set to join Cameroon for an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying match, while Alex Roldan joins El Salvador for Concacaf Nations League action and Raúl Ruidíaz represents Peru in FIFA World Cup Qualifying. Tacoma Defiance defender Stuart Hawkins has also been called-up to the U-17 United States Youth Men’s National Team for a tournament in the Czech Republic, while midfielder Antonio Herrera joins the Mexico U-18 squad for camp in Mexico City followed by a tournament in Slovenia.

Nouhou, 26, has 23 career caps for Cameroon since 2018, playing every minute in all three of Cameroon’s 2022 FIFA World CupTM matches, including the country’s historic 1-0 win over Brazil. The Douala native most recently started two matches, both against Namibia, in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying in March of this year. Cameroon is slated to play Burundi in its final AFCON Qualifying match on Tuesday, September 12 in Garoua, Cameroon (12:00 p.m. PT). Nouhou has made 26 appearances for Seattle this year in all competitions.

Roldan, 27, has 23 career caps for El Salvador since making his international debut in a 2-0 win over Guatemala at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, a game in which he scored his first international goal. Roldan most recently played every minute during El Salvador’s three 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup matches. El Salvador’s Nations League schedule includes a matchup with Guatemala on September 7 in Guatemala City (7:00 p.m. PT) before facing off against Trinidad & Tobago at home on September 10 (7:00 p.m. PT). Roldan has appeared in 25 matches across all competitions for Seattle this year, tallying three assists.

Ruidíaz, 33, has amassed 53 appearances (21 starts) for Peru since 2011, scoring four international goals. The Lima native most recently logged 46 minutes in a friendly against Germany in March of this year. Peru faces off against Paraguay on September 7 in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay (3:30 p.m. PT) and Brazil on September 12 in Lima, Peru (7:00 p.m. PT). Ruidíaz has 20 appearances for Seattle this year in all competitions, scoring five goals.

Hawkins, 16, joins the U-17 USYMNT for matches against Ukraine on September 6, Switzerland on September 8 and the Czech Republic on September 10 (all matches at 8:00 a.m. PT) in the Vaclav Jezek tournament in the Czech Republic. The defender has made 20 appearances (18 starts) for Tacoma Defiance this year, scoring one goal.

Herrera, 18, joins the U-18 Mexico Youth Men’s National Team for a training camp in Mexico City before participating in the 2023 Slovenia Nations Cup. El Tri is set to face United Arab Emirates on September 6, Slovenia on September 9 and Portugal on September 12. Herrera has 18 appearances (11 starts) for Tacoma Defiance this year, scoring one goal.

Following a 2-2 draw against Portland on September 2, Seattle Sounders FC has a week off from competitive action before traveling to Texas on Saturday, September 16 for a matchup against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium (5:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
