Zach Scott made his breakthrough with the Seattle Sounders at Memorial Stadium, and now he’ll say his goodbye to the fans who embraced him right where he got his start 14 years ago.
The Emerald City Supporters announced Wednesday that tickets will go on sale next week for a testimonial match honoring Scott next year at Memorial Stadium. ECS is partnering with the Sounders to put on the match, which is expected to include a slew of former Sounders players who suited up alongside Scott during his 15 seasons with the club, when he went from a walk-on at an open tryout to earning the “Mr. Sounder” moniker.
The testimonial match will be held on March 1, 2017, with kick off set for approximately 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, Oct. 24.
Scott made the USL Sounders’ 2002 roster following an open tryout at Memorial Stadium and went on to log a franchise-record 349 appearances for the club heading into the team’s regular season finale vs. Real Salt Lake on Sunday. Scott, 36, announced in September that this would be his final year with the club.
“The time has come for me to turn the page on my soccer career and start a new chapter of my life,” Scott said last month. “When I signed with the USL Sounders in 2002, I never imagined that I would have a professional career that lasted 15 years, and it’s been a rare blessing to have played in the same city the entire time. That said, I have much more to offer in this life and I couldn’t be more excited to see what’s next.”
The South Grandstand Lower has been reserved for ECS members for the match.
