U18s Drop Friendly To Vancouver

U18 vs Vancouver Image

In their first game back from the winter break, the Sounders U18s fell 2-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency.

The Sounders FC U18 squad played their first competitive game in a month on Saturday, facing the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency in a friendly match at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham.

The Sounders played strong with Vancouver through 65 minutes, but then allowed two goals over three minutes and couldn’t manage to get on the board to fall 2-0 in the friendly.

Rodney Greiling had a great game in goal, coming up with a few tough saves, but the two goals in the 67th and 69th minutes proved too much for the Sounders.

The onslaught from the Whitecaps came just as Seattle made a five-man substitute and they took advantage of the adjustments they were making on the field, striking fast and early.

The game wasn’t without opportunities for Seattle though, as Darwin Jones twice found the post with shots.

Another highlight for Seattle was Michael Steele’s involvement in the game.  The U16 midfielder played the final 15 minutes of the match in a call-up from the younger Academy team.

The Academy returns to regular action on Sunday January 16 against California Development Academy in Del Oro, California, before returning home for matches with their local rivals with Crossfire Academy.  The January 23 matches with Crossfire will be at Lake Washington High School with the U18s kicking off at 11 am and the U16s starting at 1:30 pm.
