After a tense series in Round One against the Houston Dynamo, the Seattle Sounders have advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the 14th time in 16 seasons. The Rave Green advanced past Houston by winning both Match One and Match Two in penalty-kick shootouts.
The Sounders now await the conclusion of the LAFC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Round One, Best-Of-3 Series to learn their opponent for the next stage of the postseason. LAFC, who qualified as the No. 1 seed in the West, would host the Sounders should they advance. However, if Vancouver progresses to the next round, the Sounders would host the Whitecaps at Lumen Field with a spot in the Western Conference Final on the line.
LAFC won Match One in their series 2-1 at BMO Stadium on October 27 before falling 3-0 on the road to Vancouver last weekend in Match Two. The two sides will meet again in Southern California on November 8 at 7:30 p.m. PT in a winner-takes-all showdown.
The league will take a brief hiatus during the FIFA International Window before resuming postseason play on the weekend of November 22. The pause in play comes at a beneficial time for Seattle, as the team's leading scorer Jordan Morris and leader in assists Albert Rusnák both missed Match Two of the Houston Dynamo series due to injury. Head Coach Brian Schmetzer confirmed this week that both players should be available for the Western Conference Semifinals.
