Ahead of the MLS season opener on March 4, Sounders FC and its charitable arm, RAVE Foundation, unveiled a renovated Teen Room at the Yesler Community Center and provided a sneak peak of the first RAVE Field, set to open this summer.
RAVE Foundation has been making investments in the Yesler community as a program partner for the last two years by providing free soccer clinics, tickets and transportation to soccer matches and their GOALS for Art program, an art club giving kids in the Yesler community the opportunity to help design the goal frames for their RAVE Field.
With the help of former Sounders Zach Scott and David Estrada, RAVE Foundation and Sounders FC introduced a Sounders-themed foosball table, team-themed décor, and a Sounders FC "video corner". Local artist, MLS Watercolorist, also created custom Sounders FC-themed artwork for the room.
We're excited to give back and just get back in our community," Scott said. "We're also really excited that turf is finally laid at our RAVE Foundation-branded field."
As part of RAVE Foundation's ultimate goal to open full-sized small fields for free play in underserved communities throughout the Puget Sound, the RAVE Field at Yesler Terrace Park has been developed as the center of a comprehensive new park which lies at the crossroads between Pioneer Square, Chinatown-International District and First Hill, and will serve as an anchor for soccer and other outdoor activities in the community.
