TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS – Playing its third 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage match, Seattle Sounders FC fell 1-0 to CD Olimpia in Tegucigalpa, Honduras this evening. A second-half goal from Alberth Elis was the difference, as the home side took three points at Estadio Nacional.

Sounders FC remains in first place in Group F with four points (1-1-1) after last Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Olimpia in Seattle and a 1-1 draw with Vancouver on August 5. The Rave Green wrap-up Group Stage play with a home fixture on Wednesday, September 23 against Whitecaps FC. Meanwhile, Olimpia and Vancouber are set to meet twice to complete the group – once at Whitecaps FC’s BC Place on September 16 followed by a contest in Tegucigalpa on October 22.

After a scoreless first hour of play, Olimpia got on the board in the 60th minute when Elis scored his second goal of the Group Stage. Ever Alvarado got behind the defense on the left side of Seattle’s area, forcing Troy Perkins off his line to make the initial stop, but the deflection fell to Elis, who collected the ball and put it into the back of the net.

Sounders FC returns to MLS regular season action this Sunday, August 30 with a nationally televised Cascadia Cup clash with the Portland Timbers. Coverage on ESPN begins at 1:30 p.m. PT with a 30-minute pregame show before a 2:01 p.m. PT sharp kickoff.
