Sounders FC can clinch spot in Western Conference Championship with result in Dallas

Mears vs DAL 151101

After coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at home against FC Dallas on Sunday night, Sounders FC can clinch a spot in the Western Conference Championship with a draw or a win next weekend in Texas.

The two teams will wrap up their Western Conference Semifinals two-leg aggregate-goal series on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. The match will be played at 4:30 p.m. PT with national coverage on FS1. Sounders fans can listen locally in the Seattle area on KIRO 97.3 FM and El Rey 1360 AM.

The Sounders can advance to the Conference Championship via a draw or victory, or a loss by one goal in which they score multiple times. The Sounders knocked Dallas out of the Western Conference Semfinals last year after playing to a 1-1 aggregate-goal draw over two legs, but they scored the all-important away goal in Texas before shutting out Dallas at CenturyLink Field the next week.

Andreas Ivanschitz scored his first career MLS Cup Playoffs goal in the 67th minute on Sunday night and Clint Demspey scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute off a free kick from just outside the Dallas penalty box. Fabian Castillo scored the opening goal in the 18th minute for Dallas.

The Sounders are now unbeaten in their past 11 games across all competitions, and have won three straight dating back to the regular season finale on Oct. 25. The Sounders finished 4-4-9 on the road this season, including a scoreless draw against Dallas in March.
