Jordan Morris made another mark in the Major League Soccer record books on Sunday, setting a new record for U.S.-born rookie players with his 11th and 12th goals of the season.
Morris broke past Galaxy defender Daniel Steres near midfield and scored a stunning breakaway goal with the outside of his right foot in the 63rd minute against the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center.
Morris, who leads the Sounders in goals this season, broke a tie with Pat Noonan for most goals scored by an American rookie. Noonan scored 10 for the New England Revolution in 2003 before later suiting up for the Sounders from 2010-11. He’s currently an assistant on the Galaxy coaching staff.
Morris added his 12th goal in the 73rd minute, inching him closer to the MLS rookie record for goals (18), which belongs to Cyle Larin with Orlando City last year.
Morris now leads all U.S.-born players in MLS in goals scored this season.
