EDINBURG, TEXAS
 - Defender Riley Grant netted his first professional goal near the end of the first half, but Sounders FC 2 (5-6-2, 17 points) came up short in a 3-1 loss at Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (5-4-2, 17 points) on Saturday evening. With the victory, the Toros move into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with S2. The Rave Green return to Starfire Stadium, where they earned four points in a recent two-match homestand, with a contest against OKC Energy FC on Monday, June 19 (7:30 p.m. PT / Live-Streamed on SoundersFC.com).
Rio Grande Valley FC struck first with a goal in the 16th minute by Jorginho James. James capitalized on poor distribution from Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller, gaining control of the ball on the right flank and catching Miller off his line. The midfielder sent a shot from distance over the keeper's head and into the net for the 1-0 lead.
S2 tied the score at one apiece in the final moments before halftime. Midfielder Ray Saari delivered a corner kick into the center of the area, where Grant flicked a header to the unmarked far post. The equalizer gave Grant his first professional goal, while Saari was credited with his team-high seventh assist of the campaign.
The Toros took the lead in the 62nd minute on a goal from Ruben Luna. Luna streaked in front of goal and connected on a cross from TJ Casner, where he knocked in a shot from close range.
Three minutes later, the Toros extended their advantage to 3-1. On a set-piece delivery, Emilio Garcia's sweeping pass into the 18-yard-box found Ivan Magalhaes, who scored on a one-touch jab under heavy pressure. The host side, managed by former S2 Assistant Coach Junior Gonzalez, held onto the 3-1 score-line for the remainder of the match.
S2 returns to action against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Monday, June 19. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Starfire Stadium.
