Jordan Morris picks up where he left off in 2024, ties club's all-time scoring record

There’s a reason why they call Jordan Morris the Mercer Island Magician.

With Morris’ two goals in the Sounders’ 2-2 draw against Charlotte FC, he is now tied with Raúl Ruidíaz as the club’s all-time leading scorer across all competitions.

“To be a kid growing up here in Seattle and playing for the Academy, being a fan of the team, to kind of put my name in the history books like that, is a huge, huge honor,” said Morris.

His first goal of the night came in the first twenty minutes of the match when a driven ball from Georgi Minoungou found Jordan Morris near the six-yard box to finish one-time into the back of the net. It was in the 49th minute, however, when his milestone moment became a reality.

After receiving a through-ball from Albert Rusnák, the veteran forward smashed the ball underneath the crossbar to not only give his team the lead, but collect his 86th career goal with his hometown club.

“For a local guy to persevere and come through and now share that record — but he's going to break it — it's a tremendous achievement by Jordan,” said Head Coach Brian Schmetzer.

Following a prolific attacking season last year, Morris earned a Designated Player contract with the club. Just one game into the 2025 MLS campaign, the Seattle native is living up to expectations. Morris’ two-goal outing on Saturday marked his fourth brace in his eight league home openers with the club.

In 2024, Morris enjoyed a career-best season as he tallied a 18 goals across all-competitions, one shy of tying the club’s single-season record. At the rate he is going in 2025, this year might be even more prosperous.

“We've had some really good strikers here for a long, long time,” said goalkeeper Stefan Frei. “And so for him to have the longevity that he's shown, to be able to put himself on the pitch and be available to play and to obviously score so many goals is great. And if he keeps banging goals in, it's [going to] be good for us.”

Morris is just one of several attacking players on the team who are expected to make significant contributions in the busy season ahead, beginning with Wednesday's Concacaf Champions Cup Round One, Leg 2 match against Antigua GFC (7:30 p.m. PT; FS2, ViX | TICKETS).

“You see the quality that we have on the team this year and the different ways we can break teams down, and the combination play that we were having through the middle, and just the different weapons that we have this year to score goals,” said Morris.

“It's going to be a really fun year.”
