Sounders FC will take on the best of the best in the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in North America in June 2025.

After becoming the first MLS club to compete at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023 under its old format in, the Sounders will get another chance on the global stage next year.

“To have another opportunity at it is exciting,” said forward Jordan Morris in an interview with FIFA.com.

The latest edition of the tournament will follow the World Cup format that splits 32 of the qualifying teams into eight groups of four to start. Unlike the Sounders’ last appearance at the global competition, the team will have a guaranteed three matches in the group stage.

“To know that it has expanded and that the competition level is incredible, we’re looking forward to having a group stage and hopefully getting out of that and progressing and doing well in the tournament,” said Morris.

The Sounders will be surrounded by the likes of international giants Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Inter Milan to name a few.

But Morris is determined to face one team in particular after missing out on the matchup in the 2023 CWC competition: Real Madrid.

“Guys were excited about the chance of playing against them last time and it didn’t work out,” said Morris. “We were close to that opportunity and were itching to play against them, so playing Real Madrid, who are a massive club, would be pretty cool.”

There is a possibility that the Sounders could even take on these world-renowned clubs in their own backyard. FIFA announced on Sept. 28 that Seattle will be one of the 11 host cities for the tournament.

“There’s just a buzz around soccer in this city,” Morris said to FIFA.com regarding the World Cup coming to Seattle in 2026.

And now with FIFA Club World Cup being an additive to the hype surrounding the sport, the region will be a hotbed for soccer fans over the next two years.

“There’s a lot to look forward to here in Seattle,” said Morris.
