The Seattle Sounders are visiting Real Salt Lake on Saturday in their first of two meetings this season. Here is everything you need to know:
WHEN AND WHERE: Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. PT at America First Field in Sandy, Utah.
WHERE TO WATCH: The match will be available to watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
WHERE TO LISTEN: The match will air on 950 KJR AM and in Spanish on El Rey 1360AM.
OPENING MLS MATCH RESULT: The Sounders drew 2-2 at home to Charlotte FC on Matchday 1 while RSL fell 4-0 to the San Jose Earthquakes in Northern California.
PREVIOUS MEETING: Seattle and Salt Lake drew 1-1 at Lumen Field on May 29, 2024. Albert Rusnák scored for the Sounders while Andrés Gómez found an equalizer in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
A TALE OF TWO TOURNAMENTS: The Sounders breezed past Guatemala’s Antigua GFC 6-2 on aggregate in the opening round of their Concacaf Champions Cup run, while RSL bowed out to Costa Rican club CS Herediano 2-1 on aggregate. RSL played to a scoreless draw in Costa Rica in the opening leg before falling 2-1 at home on Wednesday.
BUCKING THE TREND: Seattle is looking for its first win in five tries against RSL (0-2-2) with its last victory coming in a 2-0 home win on March 4, 2023. The Sounders have just one win in their last nine meetings in all competitions.
SOUNDERS FIRING: After a preseason that included a flurry of goals, Seattle has found the back of the net eight times in three matches in all competitions to begin 2025. The Sounders are spearheaded by a trio of goals by a healthy and dangerous Pedro de la Vega as well as two from offseason acquisition Paul Arriola.
MORRIS ON THE BRINK OF HISTORY: After coming up just short in the Sounders’ win over Antigua on Wednesday, forward Jordan Morris will look to get on the score sheet on Saturday and usurp former teammate Raúl Ruidíaz for the most goals in club history. Morris and Ruidíaz each sit on 86 tallies in their Sounders careers.
FAST AND FURIOUS: The Sounders will play their fourth match in 11 days to begin 2025 and that’s only just the beginning. Due to their advancement to the Round of 16 in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Seattle will play at a minimum eight matches in its first 25 days with a home-and-home CCC matchup against Liga MX’s Cruz Azul on the horizon as well as MLS matches home to LAFC and at St. Louis CITY SC.

NEW-LOOK RSL: Real Salt Lake underwent an overhaul this past offseason with the major departures of forward Chicho Arango (trade to San Jose Earthquakes), forward Anderson Julio (trade to FC Dallas), forward Rubio Rubín (option declined), midfielder Maikel Chang (out of contract), defender Andrew Brody (waived) and defender Marcelo Silva (out of contract). RSL also acquired forward Elias Manoel from the New York Red Bulls in December but transferred him to Brazil’s Botafogo this past week.
ROCKY (MOUNTAIN) START: It’s been tough going for Pablo Mastroeni’s side to start 2025, going 0-2-1 in three matches, scoring just one goal with a goal differential of -5.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Diego Luna, M
It’s hard to believe that the United States international is still just 21, but Luna is the driving force in RSL’s attack. The 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year is coming off a season in which he recorded eight goals and 12 assists.
